Tregoning expects big run from Elshadi

Marcus Tregoning will be looking to lower the colours of a former stable star when Elshadi clashes with favourite Snow Ridge in the Vodafone Derby at Epsom tomorrow.

Snow Ridge won two of his three starts for the Lambourn trainer last season before finishing a disappointing ninth in the Dewhurst Stakes.

However, Godolphin recruited Snow Ridge over the winter, meaning Tregoning will now be in opposition through Elshadi.

And he believes the Cape Cross colt, a winner at Beverley and Newbury last season and currently a 25-1 outsider with Ladbrokes, is not without a chance.

He explained: “We were keen to go for the Goodwood trial (Predominate Stakes). But when that didn’t happen we still managed to win it with Manyana.

“In my view, Elshadi probably would have won the race and I think he’s got a good chance of finishing in the money at Epsom tomorrow.

“We couldn’t get a run into him because he hadn’t quite come to himself, but I took him to Epsom and worked him around the course and he took to it like a duck to water.

“Snow Ridge will take all the beating and I think North Light has speed. We are going there with a good each-way chance and his jockey Martin Dwyer is riding extremely well.”
