Mr Dinos bids for Henry II repeat
Last year’s winner Mr Dinos heads a field of 10 declared at today’s 48-hour final stage for the £100,000 (€149,820) bonusprint.com Henry II Stakes at Sandown on Monday.
Paul Cole’s charge defeated Pole Star in this Group Two contest over an extended two miles last May before going on to glory in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.
The five-year-old made a satisfactory seasonal debut when a staying-on fourth to Millenary in the Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup earlier this month.
Being a Group one winner, Mr Dinos has to give 5lb or 7lb to his rivals.
They include Papineau and Risk Seeker, who were both supplemented at a cost of £5,000 (€7,491) earlier this week.
Risk Seeker, trained in France by Elie Lellouche, was a runaway winner of the Bovis Homes Sagaro Stakes at Ascot a month ago.
Papineau, formerly trained in France by Andre Fabre, made a successful debut for Godolphin at Goodwood earlier this month.
Frankie Dettori takes the ride on the four-year-old with Kerrin McEvoy on Godolphin’s other runner New South Wales.
Other trainers with two runners are Mark Johnston with dual Gold Cup hero Royal Rebel as well as 2003 Queen’s Vase winner Shanty Star while Brian Meehan saddles Savannah Bay and Hilbre Island.
The field is completed by Hughie Morrison’s veteran stayer Alcazar, runner-up in the Yorkshire Cup, and Chester Cup second Misternando from Mick Channon’s stable.
