Yeats fine after canter

Yeats continued his preparation for the Vodafone Derby today when working at Ballydoyle under his big-race jockey Jamie Spencer.

The 5-2 favourite for the Epsom Classic was reported to be “stiff” following his routine workout last Friday but trainer Aidan O’Brien was happier with the colt’s condition by Sunday afternoon.

“He cantered this morning and everything was fine,” said the County Tipperary-based handler.

The son of Sadler’s Wells is likely to do his final piece of work this Friday before the June 5 contest, while plans for his stablemate Meath have yet to be decided.

The latter managed to overturn a much-hyped rival in the form of Derby-gamble Cairdeas at the Curragh on Sunday in the Group Three Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes.

Reporting the colt to have come out of the race well, O’Brien added: “He is a possible for Epsom but he could well go for the French Derby.”
