Gollings calls time on Scally's career
Steve Gollings’ grand stable servant Springfield Scally has been retired.
The 11-year-old, bred by his owner Margaret Hall, amassed over £100,000 (€148,600) in prize money during his six-year career and connections felt he had earned his retirement.
“He’s the most tough, game and genuine horse I’ve ever trained. He’s been a pleasure to train,” said Gollings.
“He’s sound. There is nothing wrong with him at all. We just thought he deserves a rest.”
The son of Scallywag made his racecourse debut for the Lincolnshire trainer as a five-year-old in a bumper at Worcester in August 1998, finishing second.
He subsequently landed a hat-trick of victories in NH Flat races and rattled up six more over timber, the last of them at Doncaster in March 2003.
Springfield Scally’s last outing came when he finished unplaced behind Kivotos at Haydock Park on Saturday.
