Hurry Bob wins at Punchestown
Paddy Mullins' Hurry Bob landed the €19,530 euros first prize in the three-mile J F Dunne Insurances Handicap Hurdle.
It looked to be a wide-open affair with 30 runners going to post, and a thrilling finish duly followed.
Mullins’ nine-year-old, in the colours of his wife, looked to have the race in the bag but tired after the last flight and both Whatareyouhaving and Well Presented closed fast.
After Hurry Bob hung on to score by three-quarters of a length, Mullins said: “It would be about 40 years since I had my first winner here.
“I bred both him and his dam but didn’t give him much of a chance as I thought three miles may be a bit much for him. Mark (Watts, his jockey) quite fancied him, though."
