Yeats' odds cut after £30,000 bet laid
Coral have cut Yeats to 3-1 favourite for the Vodafone English Derby after reporting a £30,000 (€45,000) bet on the colt.
The bookmakers say a punter in a Newcastle betting shop requested the bet this morning and after being told it would all be laid at 4-1, he returned with a banker’s draft for £30,000 at lunchtime.
“This is easily the biggest bet of the Flat season so far, and we now have liabilities of over half a million on Yeats,” said spokesman Simon Clare.
“We don’t know if the customer was simply backing his opinion or was acting on information.”
Yeats, who is trained by Aidan O’Brien, won the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown on April 18 and is due to run next in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial on Sunday week.
Vodafone Derby, Coral bet: 3-1 Yeats, 6-1 American Post, 11-1 Snow Ridge, 12-1 Salford City, 14-1 Haafhd, 16-1 Grey Swallow, Magritte, Bago, 20-1 Bull Run, Andean, Azamour, Sussex, Ecomium, 25-1 Meath, North Light, Wolfe Tone, 33-1 bar.
