Moscow Flyer claims Betdaq.com chase

Moscow Flyer confirmed his position as the best two-miler in Ireland by winning the Betdaq.com Champion Chase.

The 4-11 favourite, who unseated in the corresponding race 12 months ago, led at the fourth-last fence and resisted the persistent challenge of Rathgar Beau (12-1) by two lengths.

Strong Run, who cut out the early running with Native Upmanship, was third.

The Jessica Harrington-trained 10-year-old had parted company with Barry Geraghty in his bid for back-to-back victories in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham.

He did, though, bounce back with a smooth success in the Martell Cognac Melling Chase at Aintree earlier this month and has now won all his 14 completed starts over fences.

Mrs Harrington said: “Barry said it was the nicest ride he has ever had from the horse in this country. They went a good gallop and he was just switched off. That was a lovely finish to the season.

“We now know he goes at a variety of trips. We’ll start off in a two-mile race at Navan in November which he won last year, and the King George is a very real possibility. But that will be a bit of a finding-out exercise.”

Rathgar Beau’s trainer Eamonn Sheehy said: “We’re delighted with the run - the good ground helped him.”
