Jamie Spencer will miss the ride on Necklace in the UltimateBet.com 1000 Guineas after his appeal against the ban he picked up at Leopardstown earlier this month was dismissed at the Turf Club Rooms at the Curragh today.

The Appeals and Referrals Committee met to consider Spencer’s appeal, which was against the severity of the decision of the local stewards on April 18 to suspend him for one day after he was found guilty of using his whip improperly and with excessive frequency on Royal Tigress, the short-head winner of the Leopardstown 1000 Guineas Trial.

Having considered evidence from Spencer and the filly’s trainer Aidan O’Brien, the committee disallowed the appeal and confirmed the suspension date as May 2.

Necklace is as low as 10-1 with totesport for Sunday’s Newmarket Classic.
