Milk It Mick opts for Newbury outing

Milk It Mick will bypass Thursday’s bet365 Craven Stakes and head to Newbury on Saturday for the Lane’s End Greenham Stakes instead.

Last year’s Dewhurst hero was expected to clash with Three Valleys in Thursday’s feature trial at Newmarket for the UltimateBet.com 2000 Guineas.

But trainer Jamie Osborne said this morning: “We think there will be a good pace in the Greenham, there are four days for the ground to dry out further and the race is over seven furlongs rather than a mile which should suit us better. That is why we have opted for Newbury.”

Darryll Holland, who rode Milk it Mick to his Dewhurst victory, will be on board at the weekend.

Holland said: “Milk it Mick is proven over seven furlongs and a decent pace is crucial for him as he settles better off a quick tempo.

“I wasn’t disappointed with him on the all-weather last time as things just didn’t go his way then.”
