Story blow for Johnston

Lucky Story is set to miss the first half of the season with a leg problem.

Mark Johnston’s star three-year-old colt has been found to be lame twice in the last 10 days.

A statement from Johnston yesterday read: “Lucky Story was noted to be lame on his right hind leg twice for short periods in the last 10 days and, although he quickly became sound again on both occasions, his training has been halted while further investigations take place.

“It is now likely that he will be aimed for a campaign from midsummer onwards but we may be able to give a more accurate timescale for his preparation after he has further scans at the Animal Health Trust on Thursday.”

The son of Kris S enjoyed a spectacular juvenile campaign, winning four of his five starts, culminating with a game front-running display in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster.

Lucky Story was as low as 9-1 with Coral for the UltimateBet.com 2000 Guineas and 33-1 with Ladbrokes for the Vodafone Derby.
