Former apprentice Angelique Bonerba will appear before the disciplinary panel of the Jockey Club tomorrow after a sample taken from her on October 7 was found to contain cannabis.

At the time Miss Bonerba, 22, was an apprentice at the British Racing School. She was a licensed apprentice with Pip Payne at Newmarket between April 30 and October 17 last year.

Miss Bonerba had eight rides between May 1 and September 6 which included one win on North By Northeast at Newmarket in July.

If found guilty of a breach of the Rules of Racing, she would face a suspension from riding of up to six months for a first offence.

Testing of riders, as well as drugs awareness talks, take place at the racing schools on those courses mandatory for licensed jockeys.
