Davids Lad bypasses Cheltenham for Thurles
Davids Lad will bypass the Mildmay Of Flete at Cheltenham and have his Martell Cognac Grand National prep at Thurles next Thursday instead.
“We felt the Cheltenham race was too close to the National and if he should have got a cut or some other slight injury, there would be problems in having him fit in time for Aintree,” said a spokesman for the stable.
“He is carrying 11st 1lb in the National and we don’t want to take any chances.
“Hopefully the outing at Thurles will be enough for him.”
Davids Lad had been a leading fancy for last year’s Grand National but was an absentee after connections failed in a Supreme Court appeal for a stay on the 42-day ban imposed on the horse at Naas in February.
