Upmanship shocker at Naas

Native Upmanship suffered a shock reverse as Strong Run and Paul Carberry made every yard to land the Paddy & Helen Cox Memorial Newlands Chase at Naas today.

The Arthur Moore-trained Native Upmanship, runner-up in the last two renewals of the Queen Mother Champion Chase and sent off the 2-5 favourite, made a slight mistake five from home and got reminders from Conor O’Dwyer after the third-last.

He was still a few lengths down jumping the last as Native Scout and True Blue Victory also joined the argument.

Native Upmanship could find no more, though, and Strong Run was full value for his two and a half length call over Native Scout with the market leader only third.
