Fitzgerald awaits doctor's verdict
Mick Fitzgerald will know for certain in two weeks’ time whether he will be back in the saddle for the Cheltenham Festival.
The rider, who suffered a broken arm when See You Sometime fell in the Scilly Isles Chase at Sandown on February 7, saw surgeon Mike Foy this morning and a repeat visit will confirm whether he will be ready for the three biggest days of the jumps season, which get under way on March 16.
“He took fresh X-rays to make sure all is well and it looks good,” Fitzgerald said. “He said you can’t tell any more, other than it hasn’t shifted and it’s stable.
“I’ve just got to carry on doing what I have been doing, which is light work on it and no weight-bearing.
“I’ve got to go back two weeks today and have it X-rayed again and see how the callusing is going. If it is going well, then I’m on target.
“It’s too early to say at the moment, but it’s good news so far in that I haven’t had a setback. I’ll know in two weeks whether I am going to be back for Cheltenham or not.”
