McCoy closes in on landmark

Tony McCoy is teetering on the brink of 2,000 career winners in Britain after Corporate Player landed the first race at Wincanton.

The Noel Chance-trained gelding took the first division of the Connaught Cleaning 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdle by three-quarters of a length from Over The Creek.

It put McCoy on 1,999 winners with plenty more ammunition to come.

Chance said: "We were having a bit of a bad run as all we could do was train seconds, so I'm glad this one has actually won.

"He's really a three-mile chaser in the making, so we will not be aiming very high with him this season. But we think he's a very nice youngster."
