Hussar on the way back
Nicky Henderson’s Irish Hussar is nearing a racecourse return after a spell on the easy list following his disappointing run in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup.
The eight-year-old, who has suffered with shin problems, went off 5-1 joint-favourite with Strong Flow for the Newbury showpiece in November but was pulled up before two out.
“We’ve had to do his shins for what must be the hundredth time,” Henderson said. “But I’m pleased to say he’s ready to start fast work again and there’s still plenty of the season left.”
Henderson also had news of Fondmort, on whom the jury is out regarding stamina following his run behind Edredon Bleu in the King George.
The trainer reported that the gelding would be given a mid-season break before a target is decided for him.
