Three Valleys to be thrown out
Three Valleys is set to be disqualified from winning the Shadwell Stud Middle Park Stakes at a hearing of the Jockey Club’s disciplinary panel on Thursday.
The leading two-year-old tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol after beating Balmont by three-quarters of a length in the Group One contest at Newmarket in October.
A second sample sent for counter-analysis confirmed the presence of the drug, administered to treat mucus in the Roger Charlton-trained colt’s lungs.
If Three Valleys is stripped of his Middle Park victory it would result in the promotion to first place of Balmont, trained by Jeremy Noseda for Sanford Robertson.
And the now-retired Pat Eddery, who rode Balmont that day, would gain an unexpected and belated Group One success.
