Wolverhampton forced to abandon

Racing at Wolverhampton this evening has been abandoned after the track failed a 7.30 inspection this morning.

Officials has no option but to call the fixture off following heavy overnight rain.

“We have had four millimetres of rain overnight, with another three millimetres falling morning and it is still raining heavily. Further rain is forecast, so the meeting has been abandoned,” clerk of the course, John Pullin, said.

“The area of the track that has had the drainage work this week is raceable. Obviously the drainage work will continue next week on the remaining half of the track.

“It is a track of two halves at the moment but when the works are completed next week we will hopefully be in a better position,” he concluded.

The meetings at Dunstall Park during the past week, and for next week, have been transferred to Southwell to allow essential drainage work to be carried out on the all-weather surface.

Problems arose on Monday, December 1, when waterlogging caused a fixture to be abandoned before the first race.
