Dettori confident of bold show from Mamool
Frankie Dettori flew into town confident his Tooheys New Melbourne Cup mount Mamool will help him achieve his elusive first win in Australia's greatest race.
Mamool has won German Group One races on his two most recent starts and is William Hill's 9-2 favourite to win the two-mile handicap at Flemington.
"It means a lot to me, that's why I'm here every year," said Dettori, who will be riding in his ninth Melbourne Cup.
"I've been knocking on the door a few times and I hope that Tuesday is my day.
"He's a great horse, he always runs a good race, I just hope he runs faster than the others.
"Mamool, he's coming in on the back of two wins, the horse is in great shape, I know he stays two miles.
"I've got confidence in him giving me a good ride."
