Peter Bowen revealed today that he would love to run his in-form chaser Swansea Bay in the Martell Cognac Grand National.

The Haverfordwest trainer believes Peter Bowling’s gelding has what it takes for the four and a half mile spectacular over the unique Aintree fences.

The seven-year-old made it eight wins from his last 11 starts when lifting the Stan James Win A Racehorse Gold Cup over three miles at Kempton on Saturday.

Swansea Bay, who defeated Peccadillo by two lengths after overcoming an injury scare two days earlier, is now set to go for the £50,000 Badger Ales Handicap Chase at Wincanton next week.

“Swansea Bay will probably run in the Badger a week on Saturday and maybe then go for the Becher Chase at Aintree.

“I would love to run him in the Grand National if I can persuade the owner to do so,” Bowen told attheraces.
