Falbrav was a surprise addition to the entries for this Saturday’s Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot at today’s supplementary stage.

Connections of the Luca Cumani-trained multiple Group One winner paid out £25,000 (€36,000) to put the five-year-old in the prestigious contest, which is run over the Old Mile.

Explaining the decision Cumani said: ``It might be a surprise to the public at large but it looks as though the ground is going to stay on the fast side which is ideal for him.

“The horse is very well and there are no other opportunities for him to run. We are fairly confident that a mile will suit him as well as a mile and a quarter as the horse has lots of speed.”

Cumani said that future plans for the horse have yet to be finalised.

He added: “We are undecided, we will see what happens on Saturday and how he comes out of the race and then we’ll take our next step.”
