McDonald escapes serious injury

Apprentice Frankie McDonald has escaped serious injury after taking a nasty fall from Night Mail at Nottingham yesterday.

The 5lb claimer was unshipped when the Mick Easterby-trained three-year-old clipped the heels of another horse over two furlongs out in the two-mile Happy Birthday Ann Whelbourne Handicap.

He was taken to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham but was released after treatment.

“He will be out for three days. He is slightly concussed and badly bruised. He’s very lucky,” said his boss, trainer David Arbuthnot.

McDonald misses three rides at Ayr today, including Corridor Creeper in the Tote Ayr Gold Cup.
