Giacometti to race in America
One-time Vodafone Derby fancy Alberto Giacometti has left Aidan O’Brien to join Laura de Seroux in America.
De Seroux, who has enjoyed success with another former O’Brien inmate, Ballingarry, told thoroughbredtimes.com that the son of Sadler’s Wells would be aimed at the $600,000 (€555,495) Hollywood Derby on November 30.
“Compared to other Sadler’s Wells, he’s a little on the medium size with a shorter back than most,” de Seroux said.
“He is more of a middle-distance type than the typical Sadler’s Wells who wants to go one and a half miles or farther. I think he’ll be quite a good fit over here.”
A Group One winner as a juvenile, Alberto Giacometti’s best effort for O’Brien this season was a close third to Dalakhani in the Prix Lupin.
He eventually went into the Derby as a not-unconsidered 12-1 chance, but cut little ice under Christophe Soumillon, finishing 12th of the 20 runners at Epsom.
