Kinane king as Voile is foiled

British raider Voile proved a major disappointment as Maroochydore took the Listed Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown this evening.

Never far off the pace, Michael Kinane sent the second favourite to the front over a furlong out and stormed away for a one-and-a-half-length victory as Voile trailed in fourth.

Richard Hughes was in trouble early on on Richard Hannon’s filly and subsequently reported that she proved difficult to turn.

Kinane was following up last month’s course victory on trainer David Wachman’s challenger.

“She is still very green, but did it well. She has a high cruising speed and will improve again from this,” said Wachman, who was recording his 11th win of the Flat campaign.

“She has always shown plenty at home and will go back over seven furlongs next month at the Curragh in the Debutante Stakes.”

Put in early at 4-5, Voile ended up as evens favourite but was nearer last than first at halfway and did well to finish fourth, beaten less than four lengths.

Kinane further increased his lead in the jockeys’ championship over former title-holders Johnny Murtagh and Pat Smullen when Powerscourt made all the running to land the odds in the Seapoint Race.

Sixth to Alamshir in the Budweiser Irish Derby, Powerscourt appreciated the drop in class to get back on the winning trail and will go for a Group race next, according to champion trainer Aidan O’Brien.

Speaking from his base at Ballydoyle, O’Brien said: “Powerscourt was very rusty in the Derby on his first start of the season. We think he will get a mile and a half.”

This event was over 10 furlongs, and the favourite had a length and a half and the same to spare over Napper Tandy and Multazem.

Kinane said: “He did it nicely and will come on for that. It was a big ask for him first time this year in the Derby.”
