Choisir heads Darley July Cup field
Australian sensation Choisir heads a field of 18 declared today for the Darley July Cup at Newmarket on Thursday.
The Paul Perry-trained four-year-old stunned racegoers at Ascot when he won both the King’s Stand Stakes and the Golden Jubilee Stakes.
But he will face a stern examination of his credentials with Airwave leading the home defence.
Henry Candy’s filly was beaten half a length by Choisir in the Golden Jubilee, but was later reported as having run in season.
Oasis Dream is another to reoppose Choisir after a defeat at the meeting.
John Gosden’s charge was favourite for the King’s Stand but was beaten two and a half lengths into third.
However, connections had warned beforehand that he would improve for the race and a bold showing is expected this time.
