Hawk Wing seventh in Queen Anne Stakes

Dubai Destination floored the odds-on Hawk Wing in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot today.

Always going well for Frankie Dettori, Dubai Destination burst through to lead approaching the final furlong of the Group One contest over the straight mile and soon had the race in safe keeping, coming four lengths clear of Tillerman at 9-2.

Right Approach kept on for third but Hawk Wing, the 8-13 favourite, trailed in seventh of the 10 runners.

The winner's stable companion Blatant set a good gallop, pressed by the South African raider Victory Moon, with Hawk Wing racing in mid-division and Dubai Destination to his outside.

As the leaders began to fade Dettori seized his chance and Dubai Destination took control of the race in a matter of strides.

Tillerman, runner-up 12 months ago, came with his customary late rattle to take the second slot at 16-1 and the Queen’s Right Approach (20-1), running a good race, was a further three-quarters of a length away.

Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Suroor was winning his fifth Queen Anne following victories from Charnwood Forest (1996), Allied Forces (1997), Intikhab (1998) and Cape Cross (1999).
