Gary Berridge is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after breaking his wrist in a freak accident at Cartmel.

Berridge was unshipped from Adelphi Boy before the closing Holker Hall Garden Festival 2003 Novices’ Hurdle when the seven-year-old jinked at a plastic bag blown across the track.

Berridge was taken to Carlisle Infirmary where a broken wrist was confirmed.

His agent Richard Hale said: “He’s broken his wrist. They kept him in overnight and they were going to operate on him to sort it all out.

“I think he will be out for quite a long time. The wrist’s a tricky spot and there’s no point in rushing back.

“I should think he’ll be aiming to come back in August or September – he’ll have to take his time.”
