Champion trainer Martin Pipe today issued an updated bulletin on jockey Gerry Supple and classy chaser Iris Bleu, who both suffered injuries in last Saturday’s Martell Cognac Grand National at Aintree.

He said: “As everyone knows Gerry broke his right leg after a fall from Burlu and Iris Bleu pulled up lame after the Chair.

“Gerry is in hospital at Liverpool still and since Saturday he has had an operation to pin his leg and also two blood transfusions.”

As a result of the fall, which came at Becher’s Brook on the second circuit, Supple could be out of action for three months.

“Iris Bleu is still at the University of Liverpool and has been receiving treatment,” Pipe added.

“He has no fractured bones and they have removed the splint that he has been wearing. He is comfortable and improving and they are happy with his progress.”
