Prospects of Sunday’s meeting at Ayr going ahead appear to be increasing although officials will still inspect the track at 2.30pm this afternoon.

“We’re good to soft and still frozen in a few places but we had an overnight temperature of plus two degrees,” clerk of the course Chris Kennedy said this morning.

“The frost didn’t arrive, we had a millimetre and a half of rain and it is thawing.

“Temperatures today are forecast to be seven or eight degrees.

“It’s that catch 22 situation – if it stays mild we’ll be absolutely fine and the forecast is for it to stay mild but the trouble is the only reason we suggested having a look this afternoon is that they were talking about it being minus one or two last night.”
