Tony McCoy, standing in for the suspended Jim Culloty, sent Henrietta Knight’s stable star to the front with five fences to jump and running on resolutely the 11-8 favourite held off Nicky Henderson’s gallant Marlborough to record a hard-fought success.

Marlborough’s stable companion Bacchanal was third.

Earlier Tony McCoy broke his own record for the fastest 200 winners in a season when scoring on favourite Lord Sam in the opener at Kempton Park today.
