Two Irish runners in for Gold Cup

Two Irish-trained runners, Willie Mullins’ Killultagh Storm and Youllneverwalkalone from Christy Roche’s yard have been declared for tomorrow's feature event - the £100,000 (€155,285) Tripleprint Gold Cup at Cheltenham.

The weights are headed by the Martin Pipe-trained Cyfor Malta, who is currently 2-1 favourite for the two miles, five furlong event.

The nine-year-old proved he was back to his best when winning the Thomas Pink Gold Cup at this track over half a furlong shorter last month.

Cyfor Malta will now bid to become the first horse since Senor El Betrutti in 1997 to complete the Thomas Pink-Tripleprint double.

Pipe, meanwhile, will be looking for his third win in the race after taking the Grade Three event with Fragrant Dawn in 1993 and Northern Starlight in 1998.

As well as the favourite, Pipe runs Exit Swinger after taking out Wahiba Sands, Seebald and Horus at today’s final stage.

Paul Nicholls’ Fadalko and Philip Hobbs’ Wave Rock also line up, alongside Nicky Henderson’s promising second season chaser Fondmort.

Venetia Williams will be represented by Golden Goal, while Henrietta Knight has Foly Pleasant engaged in both this race and the Tommy Whittle Chase at Haydock.
