Osborne faces Jockey Club hearing

Jamie Osborne will on Thursday be the second of three trainers who appeared on the BBC's Kenyon Confronts documentary in June to learn his fate at Britain's Jockey Club.

Osborne along with fellow trainers Ferdy Murphy and David Wintle were charged by Britain's Jockey Club of bringing racing into disrepute following their contribution to the programme.

The documentary entitled "They Fix Races, Don't They?" claimed to expose alleged cheating in racing after secretly filming the three men concerned.

Murphy was found guilty at hearing of the disciplinary committee last month and was fined £4,000 (€6,200).

Osborne made unguarded comments on the programme which prompted the Jockey Club's action.

At Thursday's hearing the disciplinary committee will "consider whether or not Osborne has acted in a manner which was prejudicial to the integrity, proper conduct or good reputation of horseracing in Great Britain, in respect of the conversations portrayed in the BBC production Kenyon Confronts between himself and reporters from the programme purporting to be potential owners".

But he will also attend an earlier hearing at Portman Square to determine whether he has committed a breach of Rule 51 (i) concerning the decision to send Lanos to Redcar on the afternoon of June 21 in order to run the gelding the next day, when the horse had already been examined that morning by a vet and declared unfit to run at Goodwood that evening with a "high temperature".

That hearing is due to start at 9.30am.

A date has yet to be set for Wintle's hearing. Wintle will also face two other charges over the running and riding of Seattle Alley and whether he behaved "violently or improperly" at Stratford after he was seen to be in a struggle with Paul Kenyon on the programme.
