Irish stayer Media Puzzle was awarded a 3lb penalty for the Tooheys Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 5 after easily winning today’s Geelong Cup.

Trained by Dermot Weld, who listened by phone from Ireland via a link-up with his son Mark trackside, Media Puzzle smashed the course record for 12 furlongs in beating the Robert Sangster-owned Requiem by three and a quarter lengths with Donarch a distant third.
