Marienbard gave Godolphin their third victory in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Lucien Barriere at Longchamp in Paris today.

The Dubai team had won the prestigious contest in the past with Lammtarra in 1995 and with Sakhee last year.

Those two were ridden by Frankie Dettori, who partnered Marienbard this afternoon.

Aidan O’Brien’s Black Sam Bellamy made the early running at a good pace tracked by Islington and his stable companion High Chaparral in third with Dettori hemmed in on the rails.

As the field turned for home Islington went on chased by High Chaparral with Sulamani finishing fast on the wide outside.

But when all seemed lost a gap appeared for Marienbard and under a powerful drive from Dettori the Saeed bin Suroor-trained five-year-old got up to claim first prize with Sulamani second and High Chaparral third.
