Nayef will miss the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Lucien Barriere on Sunday, it was announced today.

Trainer Marcus Tregoning and owner Hamdan Al Maktoum had been considering running the Juddmonte International Stakes winner in the Longchamp showpiece but have now decided against the idea.

The four-year-old will instead bid to repeat last year’s victory in the Emirates Airlines Champion Stakes at Newmarket on October 19.

Angus Gold, racing manager to Sheikh Hamdan, said: “He’s going to go for the Champion.

“Sheikh Hamdan just decided he wanted to have a go at the Champion.”

Nayef was a best-priced 8-1 chance for the Arc.
