Yavana‘s Pace bids for further Group One glory in the Deutsche Post Euro Express Preis von Europa in Cologne on Sunday.
Mark Johnston‘s 10-year-old, a big-race winner at the northern German track in August, has posted consecutive seconds in the mile and a half feature.
The Middleham raider was agonisingly touched off by Golden Snake two seasons ago, although he was no match for Godolphin’s Kutub last year.
Keith Dalgleish’s mount numbers another Godolphin runner, Narrative, who will be partnered by Frankie Dettori, among his eight rivals.
Unraced since finishing tailed off in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes in July, the ex-Irish runner had previously done well in Italy.
Narrative outclassed his field in a weak Italian Group Two contest, before finishing a creditable second to Falbrav in the Gran Premio di Milano in June.
Salve Regina may do best of the locals. The German Oaks winner has reeled off three consecutive Group One seconds including the German Derby.
The filly was also touched off by Yavana’s Pace in the Credit Suisse Private Banking Pokal, but cut little ice against Godolphin’s Marienbard in the Grosser Preis von Baden.
Johnston runs two others horses on the card, including local Group Three winner, Love Regardless (Dalgleish), in the Group Two Oppenheim Meile.
The Jaguar Meile victor, coming off an American disappointment, numbers Baden Baden winner Pardus (Dettori) amongst his nine rivals.
The Middleham trainer’s hardy Pie High (Dalgelish) has her 16th outing of a campaign, which has yielded three wins, in the Listed Schwarzgold Rennen over one mile.
Dettori also teams up with Brian Meehan’s Goodwood winner, Madame Maxine, in the Listed Revlon Europa Sprint over five furlongs.
