Commission is reported to be on target for Saturday’s Group Three Iveco Solario Stakes, the highlight of Sandown’s annual Variety Club day.

The Gerard Butler-trained juvenile was successful on his racecourse debut over the seven furlongs at the Sandown track earlier this month and he is set to tackle the course and distance again.

Tim Jones, for the owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, said: “We are intending to run in the Solario Stakes.

“He’s in very good form and seems to have come on for his debut win at Sandown a couple of weeks ago. Whilst the Solario represents a significant step up in class, it is well worth taking our chance.”

Jones is hoping that Commission’s previous outing on the track can help him in what should be a competitive affair.

“Hopefully that experience will stand him in good stead – what we want is a nice draw and a race run at a nice level pace,” he explained.

The son of Gulch holds entries for all the major juvenile races in the autumn including the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket and the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster, but Jones believes his true potential will not be realised until next season.

“We made a lot of big entries for him in hope that he could make the step up to it from there. Undoubtedly he is a horse who will be seen at his best next year and anything he does this year is just a nice bonus really,” he added.
