Casper triumphs

Cian O’Connor and Irish Independent Casper gave Ireland a fillip after their team’s disappointing performance in Friday’s Nations Cup by winning the Kerrygold Puissance at the Dublin Horse Show.

Three horses made it through to the third jump-off, Pedro ridden by Johan Philippaerts of Belgium, Fresh Direct Wiston Bridget ridden by Britain’s Tim Stockdale, and Irish Independent Casper.

All three went clear again and went into jump-off number four, in which the wall stood at 2.25metres.

The obstacle was the undoing of Wiston Bridget, joint winner of this competition 12 months ago, and Pedro.

But the 10-year-old grey gelding Irish Independent Casper, having his first taste of Puissance jumping, sailed over clear in majestic style in the hands of 22-year-old O’Connor.
