Nicholl’s pair heads Haydock field

A total of 51 horses have been entered for the Group One Stanley Leisure Sprint Cup at Haydock.

The field for the six furlong dash, which takes place on September 7, is headed by David Nicholls’ July Cup first and second, Continent and Bahamian Pirate.

Danehurst, who finished third in that race at Newmarket, is also entered along with the Golden Jubilee Stakes winner Malhub.

Aidan O’Brien has a total of 12 horses in the race including dual Guineas winner Rock Of Gibraltar, Coronation Stakes winner Sophisticat and last year’s champion juvenile Johannesburg, who disappointed so badly when well behind Malhub at Royal Ascot.

Godolphin have Bad As I Wanna Be, Meshaheer, and Three Points in the sprint event while Robert Collet’s Zipping and Richard Gibson’s Swedish Shave add a French flavour to the affari.

Another interesting entry is Hideyuki Mori’s Air Thule from Japan.
