Landseer is to be aimed at the Prix Maurice de Gheest next month following his fourth in the Darley July Cup, trainer Aidan O’Brien has revealed.

‘‘Landseer came out of the July Cup well and we’ll be looking at the Prix Maurice de Gheest in Deauville,’’ said the Ballydoyle handler of the French 2000 Guineas winner.

‘‘It was hard for him coming back from a mile to six furlongs at Newmarket and the six and a half at Deauville hopefully will suit him.’’

O’Brien also had news of Sholokov, who has finished second in both the Budweiser Irish Derby and the Coral Eurobet Eclipse Stakes to stable companions High Chaparral and Hawk Wing in successive weeks

The three-year-old colt is likely to miss the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot later this month and wait for the Juddmonte International at York next month.

‘‘It is looking like Sholokhov will be going to the Juddmonte at York rather than the King George which may come a bit quick for him.

‘‘He’s had two races on easy ground in a week and going to York gives us a chance to give him a little break now.’’
