Mellow Park wins Lanchashire Oaks
Mellow Park came with a strong run inside the final furlong to win the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock from Lady's Secret.
Jeremy Noseda's filly had disapppointed in the Vodafone Oaks last time and her cause looked lost on this occasion when coming under pressure from Darryll Holland with three furlongs to run.
However, she responded in game fashion to squeeze through a gap and take the lead before drawing a length-and-a-half clear and scoring a shade comfortably.
Shadow Dancing loomed into a challenging position in the home straight but could not quicken up and was beaten a further one-and-a-quarter lengths in third place.
Holland said afterwards: "She is a horse that needs a consistent pace and gallop and the race was a bit stop-start.
"She took some time to get into her rhythm but went on very strongly in the home straight.I think that she has the potential to be top class. She certainly stays very well and is out-and-out galloper.
"There is more to come as she is lightly raced. First time, she was still very green and then it was bottomless in the Oaks at Epsom."
