Kelly hit by 10-day ban

Shane Kelly was banned for 10 days for careless riding on Miss Damask in the Konica East Classified Stakes at Nottingham.

Kelly, whose ban runs from May 27 to June 1 and June 3-6, was found to have caused the fatal fall of Mind The Silver when he allowed his mount to drift in about three furlongs from the finish of the one mile contest.

Miss Damask (9-2) ran on to finish second, five lengths behind the 13-2 winner Dennis The Menace.

‘‘The Stewards found that Shane Kelly was in breach of careless riding in that he let his horse drift in off the heels of Diamond Green and in doing so the consequence of that was Mind The Silver ridden by Neil Callan clipped his heels and came down as a result,’’ stewards’ secretary Ashley Bealby told attheraces.

Callan escaped unscathed but Mind The Silver, trained by Richard Lee, broke a shoulder and had to be put down.

Lee and Kelly gained some compensation when they took the following race, the Commercial Motor...A Safe Bet Handicap, with Almaydan.
