Plum draw for Godolphin hope

Grandera was installed the 7-2 favourite on the morning line after being drawn seven in the Singapore Airlines International Cup.

Godolphin’s number one hope and the mount of Frankie Dettori was the first out of the hat at the special ceremony whilst his stablemate Atlantis Prince was rated a 25-1 shot by Michael Maxworthy, Singapore Turf Club’s commentator and broadcaster.

The second string, who will be ridden by Yutaka Take, was the second to be drawn for the third leg of the World Series at Kranji tomorrow and will be closer to the rail in stall four.

Connections were understandably delighted at the draw and Godolphin’s travelling head lad Ross Campbell said: ‘‘Before the draw I thought between three and eight would be ideal.

‘‘Grandera’s going to be ridden from off the pace hopefully, and the other one, if there’s no pace, will be right bang there. In Hong Kong, Grandera saw too much daylight.

‘‘If Western Pride in stall one goes off at million miles an hour, Atlantis Prince will just drop in second. He’s not there purely as a pacemaker. He’s so well in himself, but he would have to put up a personal best to win.

‘‘Hopefully we can have a good run, maybe with a bit more luck in running than we had in Hong Kong.’’
