No surprises for fillies classic
There were no surprise withdrawals from the Sagitta 1000 Guineas as 18 fillies were declared at today’s 48-hour declaration stage for the fillies’ classic at Newmarket on Sunday.
Despite the big field, the race over the Rowley Mile is seen by many as a head-to-head between the Mick Channon-trained Queen’s Logic and Luca Cumani’s Gossamer.
Both had top class form as two-year-olds and have dominated the ante-post betting virtually from day one. The pair are unbeaten as is Saeed bin Suroor’s sole representative Kazzia.
As expected Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien will be four-handed with Lahinch, Maryinsky, Quarter Moon and Pietra Dura.
Other fancied runners include Marcus Tregoning’s Misterah, winner of the Nell Gwyn Stakes at the Craven meeting and the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Alasha, who had a poor run in that race when a close-up fourth.
