Racing: No Guineas runner for Cecil

Henry Cecil, with 23 British Classics to his name, will not have a runner in the Sagitta 1000 Guineas at Newmarket next week.

The Warren Place trainer was not represented in any of the five Classics last year although he did saddle the 2000 Vodafone Oaks winner Love Divine and Vodafone Derby third Beat Hollow in 2000.

Although Protectress and Half Glance were both left in the 1000 Guineas at the latest acceptance stage, neither will take their place in the line-up on Sunday week.

Teddy Beckett, racing manager to owner Prince Khalid Abdullah said: ‘‘Protectress will probably go for the Pretty Polly at the same meeting and we have no plans for Half Glance at the moment. She just needs a bit more time.’’
