Horse Racing: Pipe trio could be Chester bound
Progressive hurdler Ravenswood could be back on the Flat next month after Martin Pipe revealed he has entered the five-year-old for the Tote Chester Cup on May 8.
David Johnson’s hope is joined by stable companions Riyadh and Guard Duty in being possibles for the two-and-a-quarter-mile test.
Pipe said: ‘‘Ravenswood has already proved himself a useful stayer on the level when finishing fourth in the Northumberland Plate and fifth in the Ebor.
‘‘He has enjoyed a fruitful campaign over hurdles, winning a Newbury handicap before landing a Listed contest at Aintree’s Grand National meeting.
‘‘Riyadh was formerly a smart performer for Paul Cole and has also put in some creditable efforts over timber this season, while Guard Duty landed Kempton’s Queen’s Prize before finishing a close fifth in last season’s Cesarewitch at Newmarket.’’
