Charlie Swan's This Is Serious is the sole Irish entry for this Saturday's Tote Eider National at Newcastle.

The marathon race over four miles and a furlong has attracted 24 entries including the last two winners, Narrow Water and Scotton Green.

Narrow Water is one of five entries for the £65,000-added contest from the Ferdy Murphy stable, the others being Ackzo, Birkdale, Pealings and The Quads.

Ackzo was the runner-up two years when as a novice he went down by a neck to Scotton Green.

And last year it was Scotton Green’s turn to be beaten by a novice when Narrow Water gave the Murphy yard revenge when winning by three and a half lengths.

Other interesting entries include the 2000 Whitbread Gold Cup winner Beau, who looked an unlucky loser of last year’s Martell Grand National.
