Horse Racing: Huntingdon positive for Thursday meeting
Prospects are upbeat for racing taking place at Huntingdon on Thursday.
A dry night, and so far day, has ensured the going remains soft, heavy in places.
"It's looking pretty good," said clerk of the course Michael Prosser.
"It should stay dry on Wednesday because the forecast was for showers in the early afternoon and they haven't arrived.
"The forecast is for a dry night with clear spells, which means temperatures could actually drop to -1C or 2C.
"That shouldn't be a problem, not only because the ground temperature is so warm now, but air temperatures on Thursday are going to be 8C plus.
"We will be bypassing two fences up the home straight - the first in the home straight and the open ditch.
"Our problem may well be in the afternoon because it is forecast to rain then, but what time it arrives is guess work
"We could take a certain amount of rain - there's three metres of fresh ground on all the tracks on the bend - but we wouldn't want a deluge."
"We could have raced at every stage during this wet spell and it's fingers crossed that if it does rain on Thursday it isn't substantial."
