Horseracing: Waterlogged Ayr abandoned

Wet weather has forced the abandonment of Ayr’s National Hunt meeting scheduled for this afternoon.

Wet weather has forced the abandonment of Ayr’s National Hunt meeting scheduled for this afternoon.

Stewards made the decision after an early-morning inspection of the Scottish venue.

Clerk of the course Chris Kennedy said: ‘‘We’ve abandoned I’m afraid.

‘‘We had just under three quarters of an inch of rain overnight and on the back straight parts of the track are waterlogged.

‘‘The forecast for this morning is for continuous rain and some really heavy showers and we decided to make the decision now rather than have people travel a long way and have to call it off later.’’
