Horse racing: Sackville to run at Gowran

Sackville, the leading Irish hope for the Tote Gold Cup, will bypass the Pillar Property Chase at Cheltenham on Saturday.

He will instead contest Hacketts Bookmakers Fighting Blindness Hurdle over three miles at Gowran Park on Thursday before a crack at the Irish Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Leopardstown a week on Sunday.

Possible opponents tomorrow include the Mouse Morris-trained Boss Doyle.

‘‘We’re going to Gowran with him,’’ said trainer Frances Crowley. ‘‘We’re running him in the Hennessy as well and we’re just trying to do the right thing for the Gold Cup.

‘‘We just decided an easier race up the road would suit him better.

‘‘I think he would run very well (on Saturday) but we’re looking ahead and trying to do the right thing for the horse. He’s in good form and seems well.’’
